Rifeng PMI structural foam has been offering the aerospace, radome, automotive industries, medical technology (X-ray tables, CT beds, mammography plates), and other applications boundless possibilities for lightweight construction of parts or products made from high-performance composites. In such applications Rifeng PMI foam core, which is based on polymethacrylimide (PMI), is used as a core between, for example, CFRP facings or as a mandrel. The closed-cell foam uptakes resin only in the exposed cut cells at the surface. This prevents excess resin from infiltrating further into the foam, which avoid add unnecessary weight.

Rifeng PMI foam can be processed by common machining methods which include milling, drilling, turning, and sanding. Rifeng PMI foam can also be thermoformed into simple or complex geometries. All Rifeng PMI foams provide impressive mechanical strength, even at very low densities, and a heat distortion temperature and creep compression strength that is superior to any other rigid foam. For select grades, the properties can be further enhanced by heat-treatment.

Hunan Rifeng Composite Co.,Ltd’s parent company has long been engaged in R&D of special polymer materials and has an experienced team for polymer product R&D, application research, test, and analysis. The technical team has won more than 100 national and provincial scientific research awards. They have rich experience in the research of specialty foam materials. In 2006, the technical team of the parent company undertook a national project in Hunan Plastics Research Institute, researching on PMI foam for aerospace. After Improving production technology and processes, in 2010 to achieve mass production, and the invention patent was registered in the same year. So far, there have been dozens of invention patents.
